Hello everyone! I’m Kastel and I like cute boys and cure girls. I am a third culture kid who has lived in Singapore, Jakarta, Sydney, Shenzhen, and Chicago. English is my second language and I learned Japanese during one lazy summer in college. Now, I am stuck reading Japanese books forever and learning everything there is to know about animation.
I like to write anything subculture and fun. You can find reviews of Japanese media and Western literature here as well as random things like an incomplete guide to riichi mahjong. From the obscure to the mainstream, no media is left untouched — unless I am too lazy to read/watch/play them or write the review or an editorial for the damn thing.
I am also the editor of Tanoshimi.xyz, a Japanese media literary magazine started by a bunch of friends and me, and a contributor to English Light Novels. The latter has an interview with me if you want to learn more about how I have no life.
みみドしま is a dumb pun I made: 耳年増 means girls who gather knowledge (usually related to sex) through hearsay. I think I learned a lot from hearsay, even if it is untrue. The ド is a reference to ドM/ドS. Writing is a masochistic activity and it is also sadistic because you enjoy twisting the readers’ expectations. I’m a bad punner.
My editor is the wonderful flimsyart. They help fix awkward sentences and proofread my silly posts. They also draw cute as hell yuri art, so y’all should follow them.
The blog banner is a commission from BB whose art is just incredible. Please check their works too!

Do you still play visual novels? I’m currently making an visual novel interview. Are you interested in joining? http://otakuinterview.tumblr.com/post/54912040631/visual-novel-interview-on-distinguishing-visual-novels
Wow, sorry for the late reply. I haven’t noticed this. Yeah, I play visual novels. In fact, I’m learning Japanese via VNs! Feel free to interview me.
Pls check out the link in my previous post^^ All the details are there.
When you mentioned “dramatical murder” on one of your posts (thoughts on becoming a fujoshi), i think you were confusing it with “diabolik lovers”
I’m surprised. Do you not play Fate/Stay Night or is it another personal junk?
I’m quite interested to hear your thoughts on them, that is all.
Your Lily bias / Shiei no Sona-Nyl posts did some funny magic on me that I can’t help but to ponder of your next destination; err VN I mean.
Anyway, I just discovered your blog and I must consent you had good taste in reading materials.
Wow, sorry for the late reply. I’m bad at this blogging thing, you see.
I’ve never played Fate/stay Night, so I have no opinion whatsoever. I’ve only read Tsukihime and like most English-speaking nerds, I only read the awful translation. Tsukihime’s alright, I guess. I like sharks swallowing hotels. Sadly, I’m not too interested in the Nasuverse. Maybe if Moogy finds a way to murder me, I might consider reading it. It’s so low on my priorities I might as well not care about it.
And thanks! I’m glad someone actually likes my blog posts. Since no one posts on them, I assume I’m the most narcissistic human being in the planet. I’ve finished SayoOshi and plan to write up on that in the year 2030. Currently reading Parfait and plan to read Eustia, then the Baldr Skies. I’m also reading some Japanese and English novels and short stories. Might talk about the Japanese ones since they’ve been interesting so far.
Two words: Natsuyume Nagisa. And you know what I’m on about. 😡
I’m the image editor for NatsuNagi so I have no responsibility for translation progress. Ask eternal or sanchipinchi.
My friend, which wordpress theme do you use?
hi! I was wondering, whatever happened to the blogpost about abridgement in translation? I was constantly linking that article to other people who weren’t aware of how novel translation worked and how much gets removed, but I just realized the link I always used was dead. Is it available elsewhere? Thank you!
Hey, I removed it because it had inaccurate info and I thought it generalized too much. While the phenomena is real, it’s often difficult to know how to distinguish what gets cut and what hasn’t (as evidenced by Seven Seas). I’m hoping for someone with more knowledge to write about this because I’m not suited for it IMO.
